I can’t for the life of me find the reference, but I’ve been using this method for years, and it has always been accurate. But, since I can offer nothing but experience as proof, take this all with a grain of “experienced” salt if you do charts yourself.
To find the marriage partner in the natal chart of a female, take her natal chart and fine the first exact aspect to the natal Sun after birth. The aspect, planet aspected and the condition of the house involved will indicate the marriage partner and how the partners meet.
To find the marriage partner in the natal chart of a male, take the first exact aspect the Moon makes after birth. The planet aspected, the aspect, house, etc. will indicate the characteristics of the marriage partner and how the partners meet.
**Note: the Moon travels much faster than the Sun, so some expertise with the Moon is really necessary. This first aspect will usually appear the same day or hour of birth. In a female’s chart the first aspect can take a few days to occur, unless the Moon is applying in aspect at the time of birth. It’s not as complicated as it sounds, but it does require you understand how the planets aspect in orbit and how fast they travel in orbit
*** Additional note on the Moon: in doing the charts of males born with a Void of Course Moon, I do NOT use this method, although it hasn’t escaped my notice that the charts of males with VOC Moons, that I have done, have NOT married at all. I have never done the chart of a female where the Sun did not make an exact aspect after birth. BUT, that is a guess. A guess based on experience, but a guess nonetheless.
This is not a modern technique, I think it dates back to the time of William Lily. In addition, this is not a tool used in Synastry, composite, or in connection with any other chart. It is determined from the natal map of the native. You would not use it in comparison to another at all, nor should it be used as an absolute. You would not use it for compatibility because it does not indicate compatibility at all. It is an indicator of the nature of the partner, the circumstances of the meeting and the nature of the relationship (for good or bad).
It does not always apply to the first marriage or relationship, but it has however applied to the most significant marriage or relationship in the native’s life. The relationship that altered, informed, or changed the native in some particular fashion demonstrating that the first aspect in the natal chart may be a great indicator of a particular lesson.
I hope you can all see that there is nothing there that promises any sort of compatibility. Significant does not mean compatible. This is just an indication of what type of relationship the native will actually become involved in. The reason for this is that there is so much to real compatibility and long-term relationships that have absolutely nothing to do with any modern interpretation of “happily ever after”. What this can indicate however, is what a native continually attracts, or becomes involved in, and what purpose that might serve.
