Sun Sign Series – Virgo

You are here: Home / Articles / Sun Sign Series – Virgo

December 6, 2019 //  by Cait

As the sixth sign of the zodiac, Virgo represents the sixth stage in the evolution of man and his/her place in the universe. In Leo, the lesson is to learn and develop our individuality and creative potential. What makes us unique and different from anyone else.  In Virgo, the need is to find ways to put individual talents to the best possible use. Here, in the sign of Virgo, the Sun finds the perfect space to express talents and achieve a mastery that will be of service to others.

Here in Virgo, the healthy ego develops.  Gone now is the bluster and arrogance of the earlier signs, and in their place is a cooler, calmer individual, who is well aware of his/her talents and how to use them. This is why Virgo is known as the sign of service. It is not enough any longer to ponder our ‘greatness’ or brag about all we know and can do. In Virgo, all talents must be put to a practical use. Talents must become useful to others or what good are they?.

This is a delicate position in the evolution of the individual and the last real chance to enter into relationships with others on any level as a healthy individual. Because of this, the Sign of Virgo in Astrology and its primary force, is widely misunderstood. While it is easy to reduce the sign to the detail-oriented person of service, to do so would be missing the point entirely.

Virgo is the last sign that addresses individuality. Think of Virgo as graduation day. Here in Virgo, we either create a healthy POV regarding who we are, what we know, and how we can serve others, OR we remain stuck in the POV of “me”, and cannot enter into the “we” of relationships. Don’t under-estimate how important this last stage of development is. It is vital to healthy individuals, and healthy relationships with others. The sign of Virgo is this step, and as such, these individuals can be hard to read and understand. Many struggle to accept the hardships of service, and the work it takes to develop a healthy ego.

Here, through either the sixth house or the sign of Virgo, each and every person does the finishing touches on their individuality. A healthy ego, one that is cognizant of its abilities, what it can accomplish and what it has to offer to others, is a NECESSITY before anyone can enter into a more intimate and responsible relationship involving partners. Without a healthy respect, and an understanding of one’s own abilities and talents, one cannot hope to feel adequate in any relationship of any merit. This sign speaks volumes to the maturity of any person.

Virgos adapt to change. They react to what they experience by assessing its practical worth.  They are not overly emotional, they are often called ‘cold’ as a matter of fact, but this is because they are no longer just reacting to life changes as a child would. They are in the last throes of “growing up’.

They over-think almost everything, and their mental energies are so active they cannot simply turn it off at the end of the day. Due to this, they usually have sleep problems beginning sometimes in early childhood. Some self-medicate just to get a good night’s sleep. The Virgo should be careful not to become dependent on drugs or alcohol in order to ‘shut their minds off’ and get some sleep—it can become a habit quickly.

While their drive for perfection is sometimes irritating to others, they are driven by the desire to “master” their talents, then control and direct their creative energies into something of use. They are often accused of being OCD, but in fact, Virgos are no more prone to OCD than any other sign. Virgos simply appear to be OCD because their attention to detail is so sharp. Their attention to details is a by-product of their drive for perfection. One cannot achieve mastery if one does not pay attention to the details.

While others often misunderstand them, they understand themselves quite well. In fact, Virgo is a sign that reaches this understanding early in life. They know who they are—good or bad. That drive for perfection results in an early recognition of “who he or she really is’, and although perfection of self is never achieved, a Virgo comes closest. For this reason, they are often loners, seeking their own counsel more often than that of others.

It’s not easy being a Virgo.
